Prescribing Reference, Inc. (PRI) is a subsidiary of Haymarket Media Group of London, England. Established in 1984, PRI's goal was to provide healthcare professionals in the United States with a version of Monthly Index of Medical Specialties® (MIMS), the United Kingdom's leading monthly drug reference. This reference would be concise, compact, easy-to-use and updated frequently. In June of 1985, PRI launched Monthly Prescribing Reference® (MPR), its first and main publication. MPR is distributed on a controlled basis to primary care physicians throughout the U.S.

Due to the success of MPR, additional drug references for healthcare professionals in different specialties were launched: MPR Pediatricians' Edition® (1990); MPR Obstetrician & Gynecologist Edition® (1991); MPR Residents' Edition® (1992); Physician Assistants' Prescribing Reference® (PAPR) (1994); Nurse Practitioners' Prescribing Reference® (NPPR) (1994); MPR Urologists' Edition® (2004); MPR Long-Term Care Edition® (2006); and MPR Pharmacists' Edition® (2007) MPR Hematology/Oncology Edition® (2008).

The Prescribing Reference family of publications now reaches over 400,000 healthcare professionals including physicians, PAs, NPs, pharmacists, nurses, medical transcriptionists, students, universities, institutions, and libraries.
