Covidien has issued a voluntary nationwide recall of Heparin pre-filled syringes due to the presence of a heparin-like contaminant. The recall affects 32 lots supplied by Scientific Protein Laboratories (SPL). Covidien has not received any adverse event reports related to this recall, but the FDA has received reports of serious injuries and/or deaths in patients who have been administered heparin injectable products from other companies containing this contaminant. Use of the recalled Heparin product should be discontinued immediately.
