Treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Pharmacology:
Olopatadine is a relatively selective histamine H1 antagonist and an inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells. Decreased chemotaxis and inhibition of eosinophil activation has also been demonstrated.
In clinical trials, Pataday solution, given once a day, was effective in the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Adults and Children:
<3yrs: not recommended. ≥3yrs: 1 drop in affected eye once daily.
